Dr Rowell performs muscle-sparing direct superior approach (DSA) and robotic assisted hip replacement surgery. 

 

He believes this muscle sparing or minimally invasive approach aids in early recovery.  Additionally, he considers the accuracy of robotic-assisted surgery a valuable precision tool to help minimise complications such as dislocation and leg length discrepancy.  He feels the combination of these two modern techniques provide the potential for enhanced recovery without compromising accuracy or precision.  

 

It should be said however that all hip replacement techniques/approaches have equivocal total revision rates in the literature, and similar functional outcome scores after 3 months.  All methods of hip replacement, regardless of approach, provide fantastic clinical outcomes for patients.
